I’m a little uncomfortable talking about the word accurate. Accurate means without error and completely true.

Here are some things you’ll rarely hear unless they are said with a tone of sarcasm:

  • As accurate as a cellphone bill.
  • As accurate as a politician.
  • As accurate as a federal budget.
  • As accurate as a flight arrival time.
  • As accurate as a grossly over-muscled, highly paid sports professional claiming to have never used steroids.

That’s just a small smattering of things that often aren’t entirely accurate. I’m sure you can think of many more.

The reason it makes me uncomfortable to talk about accurate is I’m not the most careful, conscientious and thoroughgoing of individuals. It’s likely that I’ve made some mistakes in this Words Project.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that this Web site is littered with falsehoods. Heck, there are only about 160 or so entries here so far. How many errors can there be? I doubt I’ve made more than three or maybe four hundred mistakes so far. Five hundred, tops.
