acrimony

Acrimony refers to the feelings in a relationship between people. Let’s just say that acrimony is not good. No, let’s not just say that. Let’s also say that acrimony means bitterness and ill-feelings.

Consider a couple getting a divorce. If there is a vicious fight over alimony that fight will almost certainly lead to acrimony. This probably has absolutely nothing to do with why the words acrimony and alimony are so similar. The statement was a non sequitur that I used to fill in a little space in the entry on acrimony. And it certainly did a piss-poor job of it because that’s all I have to say about acrimony.
