adjure

Adjure is a verb that means to urge someone solemnly and/or fervently to do something.

Of course, no matter how solemn and/or fervent you might be, it’s up to the person whom you are urging whether she says yes. I have had ample evidence of this over the years when I’ve urged women to have sex with me.

Although, truth be told, in my case it’s usually not so much urging as begging, pleading, and whining. This might be part of the problem. Or it could be because I’m a short, somewhat overweight dweeb of a guy who has zero self-confidence.

I know; I know. I have to work on my selling skills. Surprisingly, “I’m a short, somewhat overweight dweeb of a guy who has zero self-confidence. Do you want to go out with me?” doesn’t work very well as an opening line when calling to ask for a blind date with a woman whose number you’ve been given by a friend. Go figure.
