adrenal gland

Adrenal glands are triangle-shaped organs located on top our kidneys. They secrete steroid hormones, adrenaline and noradrenaline. Ho hum. I’m sure that’s quite useful, and I hope that the medical profession understands it, but I tend to let my doctor worry about that sort of thing.

Although, being a major neurotic and a closet hypochondriac, now that I’ve learned that a bunch of things that can go wrong with my adrenal glands, including a disease I’d rather not have mentioned in my presence, let alone be a victim of it, namely cancer, not to mention a couple of other diseases I hadn’t heard of until now, I’m going to start worrying about it big time.

This is why they should keep major body parts out of the dictionary. It causes undo concern for people like me. There are some things about which I’d should probably remain ignorant for mental health reasons.

(By closet hypochondriac I mean that I become convinced that I have symptoms of every disease I read or hear about. However, because I know I’m a hypochondriac and I’m almost certainly imagining not just having the disease but also the symptoms, I don’t bother going to my doctor to check it out, nor do I tell anyone about my fears. This will probably be a problem when I really do get some dread disease.)
