I just got through writing an entry that ragged on The New Penguin English Dictionary for giving Advent top billing over advent, and against dictionaries in general for showing favoritism toward Christianity over other religions and, my personal favorite, atheism. Now, here’s Adventism.

You can’t see it, but steam is billowing out my ears. Of course, that’s only an analogy. Steam is obviously not really coming out of my ears because if it were, no matter where you are in the world, you’d hear the screaming emanating from me.

Adventism is a belief in the Second Coming of Christ and the End Times. For someone such as, oh, I don’t know, maybe me, who doesn’t believe in the first coming of Christ, this belief stretches credibility way beyond the breaking point, to say the least.

There are some people who, rather than just disagreeing with them, go so far as to mock people who hold such beliefs. I would like to chastise those people because everyone is entitled to his or her own beliefs. Besides, when a fairytale is designed in such a way as to make it disprovable, who’s to say it isn’t true?

As I said, I would like to chastise the mockers, but I’m finding that difficult seeing as though I’m one of them.
