In the previous entry, which was on the word adverb, I dissed adjectives as being slackers compared to adverbs. Now I feel guilty about that.

Adjectives pay homage to adverbs with the word adverbial. The word adverbial is an adjective that means serving as an adverb.

OK, I’ll take that as an, admittedly feeble, apology from adjectives for taking most of the credit, while adverbs are called on to do so much of the work.

It’s not much, but it was a nice gesture on the part of adjectives. I hope that adverbs accept it lovingly in the spirit of goodwill and peace between words.
