aggro

I had never seen the word aggro before. When I came upon it in the dictionary while working through this project I assumed that aggro must be one of those ridiculous abbreviations, possibly short for aggression, that have been foist upon us by the aggravating Twitter 14-character limit.

Then I remembered that the dictionary I am using was published in 1986, well before the birth of Twitter. So that can’t be it.

It turns out that aggro is a British term that means a provocation, hostility or intentional violence.

Hmm. That is pretty much the definition of aggression. So, aggro is, in effect, a British abbreviation for aggression. Maybe the British foretold the advent of Twitter and got a jump on things by coming up with the necessary abbreviations before Twitter came along. Prescient people, aren’t they?
