American Indian is the brand name of a version of American (AMplifying ERsatz Internet CAN, see American) designed specifically for sale in India.
The Virtually Useless Corporate (VUC), decided that it needed a different version of its American gadget because the plastic in version designed for the world market melts if it comes into contact with so much as a drop of curry. The American Indian version solves that problem by being made of a more stable, but almost as cheap tin-coloured plastic.
VUC also sells American Indian outside India to cater to the Indian diaspora market.
The higher quality material used in the American Indian means that it comes with a higher price than the plain old American version: $169.99 rather than $159.99.
