Amount (verb) is simply a high society way of saying “mount.” For example, someone from the crème de la crème of society might say, “I amounted my horse and went for my daily ride.”

Damn. Isn’t it just like some snotty upper-class twit to spend his or her days riding horses and thinking up new ways to say “mount?” Us working-class folks don’t have time for that nonsense. We’re too busy earning a living, goddammit.

Enough said.
