An anal (noun) is a long, generally narrow waterway that does not occur naturally, but rather is dug by humans. Sometimes anals are dug just because they look good, but usually they are created so ships can use them to transport goods and people along their routes.

However, not all human-dug waterways qualify as anals. What makes an anal different from some other such watercourses is that an anal does not connect to the sea, a large lake, a river or any other naturally occurring body of water on either end. This is a small difference, but, let’s face it, not all words are terribly useful.
